An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Creative Arts & Technology Teacher to join our partner SEN school in Thetford. We are seeking a dynamic individual to deliver engaging, practical lessons across Art, DT, and Food Technology. You will be working with students who have a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC) and SEMH, helping them develop vocational skills, sensory awareness, and a love for creation. Please note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Creative Curriculum: Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons in Art, Design Technology, and Food Technology tailored to SEN learners.
- Practical Safety: Lead safe and engaging practical sessions, from healthy cooking and food hygiene to working with various materials in DT.
- Personalised Learning: Adapt projects to meet the fine motor skills and sensory requirements of each student, aligning with their EHCP targets.
- Life Skills: Use Food Technology to teach essential independent living skills and nutritional awareness.
- Team Leadership: Collaborate with specialized Teaching Assistants to ensure all students can access tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assessment: Monitor and record student progress, celebrating creative achievements and tracking developmental milestones.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is essential.
- Proven experience teaching Art, DT, or Food Technology (ideally a combination) within an SEN or inclusive setting.
- A strong understanding of health and safety regulations within practical classroom environments.
- The ability to differentiate complex tasks into manageable, rewarding steps for students with learning difficulties.
- Excellent classroom management skills with compassion, encouraging, and flexible approach.
- A commitment to fostering a therapeutic and inclusive learning environment.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
