An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to join a well-established architectural practice based in Cheshire, specialising in delivering high-quality building projects. This role is ideal for someone with a background in Building Design, Project Management, Building Control, Clerk of Works, or any other Health and Safety-focused role within the construction industry.
Our client is seeking a proactive and self-motivated individual to take on a senior position and eventually lead the practice in fulfilling its responsibilities as Principal Designer (CDM) or Principal Designer (Building Regulations).
As a key figure within the practice, the successful candidate will offer guidance and support to colleagues in their day-to-day project responsibilities. This includes contributing to design development, organizing ongoing CPD training on health and safety topics, and enhancing our existing systems to ensure quality assurance and compliance throughout project lifecycles-from inception to completion.
Working with a dedicated Principal Designer team on a diverse portfolio of projects, this role will initially focus on ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act and associated regulations. Over time, the position offers the potential to become the lead Principal Designer within the practice, with career progression opportunities to Associate or Director level.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expertise and guidance to project teams in line with health and safety regulations.
Develop and maintain quality assurance systems to track actions and ensure compliance.
Monitor and influence design processes to align with legislative requirements.
Deliver CPD training on health and safety matters.
Key Requirements:
Proven experience in a role such as Design, Project Management, Building Control, Clerk of Works, or a related Health and Safety position in construction.
Familiarity with the Building Safety Act 2022 and Secondary Legislation 2023, including HRBs and the Gateway process.
Strong interest in health and safety issues and risk management.
Attention to detail with a systematic and methodical approach.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with design and project teams.
High ethical standards and a commitment to ensuring regulatory compliance.
This role is particularly suited to someone from a Building Control or Clerk of Works background with a deep knowledge of Building Regulations, or a Project Manager experienced in discharging CDM Principal Designer duties.

Additional Information:
Full-time position (flexible working hours may be considered).
