Role Overview
We are seeking a safety-conscious and dependable Production Operative to join our team at our Birmingham facility. This is a critical role in a fast-moving, high-hazard environment (COMAH site). You will be responsible for the safe handling, sorting, and movement of gas cylinders, ensuring operational efficiency while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Cylinder Management: Execute the safe and efficient sorting of gas cylinders using dedicated sort stands.
Logistics & Loading: Operate a 2.5-ton Counterbalance Forklift Truck (FLT) to unload cylinders and banks from vehicles, organizing them into designated bays.
Operational Support: Assist Senior Plant Operators and the Facility Manager with day-to-day yard duties and general housekeeping to maintain a high standard of site safety.
Reporting: Accurately record data on operational documents to support site KPI reporting.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all activities strictly comply with both company health and safety policies and government regulations.
What You Bring to the Team
Certification: A current, valid FLT Counterbalance License (minimum 2.5T) is essential.
Safety Mindset: A "Safety-First" attitude with the confidence to utilize "STOP for Safety" authority when necessary.
Physical Capability: Good health and physical fitness are required for the manual handling of gas cylinders, pallets, and straps.
Experience: Previous experience in chemical, mechanical, or high-hazard industrial environments is preferred.
Professionalism: A flexible approach to operational needs, excellent punctuality, and the ability to work effectively within a unionized environment.
Teamwork: Strong communication skills and the ability to manage your own time while contributing to a small, collaborative team.
