Our client is a well-established Main Contractor seeking a talented and driven Quantity Surveyor to join their growing Commercial team. The Role:
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in the commercial success of our commercial building projects from inception to completion. You will work collaboratively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure financial control, mitigate risks, and maximise value at every stage.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Planning & Feasibility: Assisting with initial cost appraisals, feasibility studies, and detailed cost plans for various commercial building projects.
Tender & Contract Documentation: Preparing and analysing project costings for tenders, including bills of quantities, and assisting with the preparation of robust contract documents.
Procurement & Subcontractor Management: Managing the procurement process for subcontractor packages, conducting negotiations, and overseeing subcontractor accounts from initial award through to final account.
Valuations & Payments: Preparing, submitting, and agreeing interim and final valuations with clients, ensuring accurate and timely payments.
Cost Control & Reporting: Monitoring and controlling project budgets and costs, producing accurate cost value reconciliations (CVRs), cashflow forecasts, and detailed financial reports.
Variation & Claim Management: Evaluating and managing variations, claims, and change control processes, providing advice on contractual claims and disputes.
Risk & Value Management: Identifying potential commercial risks and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies, and actively seeking value engineering solutions.
Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and the supply chain.
Compliance: Ensuring compliance with contractual and legal requirements, as well as company processes and procedures.
Mentoring: (For more experienced candidates) Supporting and mentoring junior commercial staff where appropriate.
What We're Looking For:
A degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment, specifically on commercial building projects would be preferred.
Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Familiarity with various forms of contract (e.g., JCT, NEC).
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and commercial management software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, often under pressure to meet deadlines.
A full UK driving licence is often required for site visits.
