Are you a passionate Science Teacher (QTS) ready to spark a love for investigation and discovery in Wigan? We are looking for an educator who can bridge the gap between complex theories and hands-on experimentation. Whether your expertise lies in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics, if you are ready to lead a laboratory environment and inspire students to explore the world through a scientific lens, we encourage you to apply today!
We currently offer various pathways to suit your professional needs. For those prioritizing flexibility, our ad-hoc supply roles (£120 - £140 per day) provide the chance to maintain your classroom presence without the commitment of planning or preparation. You will simply deliver the provided lesson, manage the laboratory safely, and ensure all marking is completed before you leave. If you prefer long-term stability, our specialist placements (£150 - £220 per day) allow you to take full ownership of a department through maternity or contract cover. These roles involve full planning, practical preparation, and GCSE examination coaching, rewarding your specialized knowledge with a higher daily rate.
Your Role in the Laboratory
Dynamic Delivery: Plan and facilitate high-quality theoretical and practical lessons, ensuring students are both challenged and safe during experiments.
Performance Monitoring: Assess and record student development, providing the specific feedback required to bridge learning gaps in preparation for GCSEs.
Lab Management: Maintain a stimulating and organized learning environment, adhering strictly to health and safety protocols (CLEAPSS) for all practical work.
Departmental Support: Collaborate with fellow teachers and technicians to manage equipment, resource sharing, and student progress data.
Professional Integrity: Uphold all school policies, focusing on safeguarding, effective behavior management, and professional conduct.
What You Bring
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related Science field.
Experience: A proven track record of teaching Science across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE).
Expertise: Deep curriculum knowledge and the ability to demonstrate practical experiments safely and engagingly.
Adaptability: The skills to pick up existing schemes of work and quickly build rapport with a new cohort of students.
Compliance: A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
