We are a leading Tier 1 contractor, at the forefront of delivering the multi-million-pound infrastructure upgrade program at HMNB Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth. This highly complex and vital project involves significant marine civils, heavy infrastructure, and specialized engineering works, all essential for supporting the UK's naval capabilities.
We are seeking a highly competent and motivated Contract Section Engineer to take responsibility for a specific section or package of works within our dynamic delivery team on-site. The Role:
As a Section Engineer, you will be accountable for the technical and operational delivery of your assigned section, ensuring work is completed safely, to specification, on time, and within budget. Your key responsibilities will include:
Programme Management: Managing and monitoring the short-term programme for your section, ensuring adherence to the overall project schedule and identifying potential delays or opportunities for acceleration.
Technical Management: Overseeing all technical aspects of your section, including interpreting complex engineering drawings and specifications, resolving design queries, and ensuring all works are constructed to the highest standards.
Site Supervision & Leadership: Leading and mentoring a team of Site Engineers and operatives within your section, providing clear direction, guidance, and fostering a strong safety and quality-focused culture.
Quality Assurance & Control: Implementing and meticulously enforcing rigorous quality control procedures, conducting regular inspections, managing snagging, and ensuring comprehensive QA documentation and records are maintained.
Health & Safety Leadership: Championing a proactive health and safety culture within your section, conducting regular safety briefings, risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all site-specific and statutory regulations.
Sub-contractor Management: Directly managing and coordinating specialist sub-contractors within your section, ensuring their performance meets contractual requirements, quality standards, and programme objectives.
Resource Management: Planning and managing plant, labour, and material resources for your section to ensure optimal efficiency and productivity.
Reporting & Communication: Providing regular progress reports to the Project/Senior Engineer, highlighting key issues, risks, and opportunities. Liaising effectively with the client, design team, and other stakeholders.
Commercial Awareness: Understanding the commercial implications of decisions, identifying and managing variations, and contributing to cost control within your section.
