The Role:
A highly challenging and immensely rewarding opportunity is available for a proactive and committed QTS SEMH Teacher to join a specialist educational provider in the Cambridgeshire region. This position is offered on a temporary contract or supply basis (often leading to long-term roles).
This role is critical to providing stability and tailored education for students who require a highly structured, trauma-informed environment. You will be responsible for planning and delivering core curriculum lessons (often focusing on functional skills and small group work) while simultaneously acting as a key mentor and emotional support figure. Your efforts will focus on achieving both academic accreditation and significant improvements in students' self-regulation and attendance.
Key Responsibilities
...- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons suitable for students with complex SEMH needs, ensuring a focus on individual learning and emotional targets.
- Implement effective behaviour de-escalation and management strategies consistently, maintaining a safe and predictable learning environment.
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, contributing crucial insight into their holistic development, often liaising with external therapeutic services.
- Act as a stable, positive role model, establishing trust and providing consistent emotional support for highly vulnerable young people.
- Collaborate closely with support staff (TAs/Mentors) to ensure a unified approach to student support and crisis intervention.
Requirements
- Full Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential, along with demonstrated, substantial experience working specifically with students who have SEMH needs (e.g., in a PRU, AP, or specialist school).
- Proven expertise in a range of therapeutic and restorative behaviour management techniques is required.
- Strong adaptability, crisis management skills, and the ability to remain calm and regulated when faced with highly challenging student behaviours.
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding procedures and the barriers to learning faced by young people with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
