Cambridge
Are you a Primary Teacher who believes that the most important lessons aren't found in a textbook, but in the moments a child finds their voice, their confidence, and their independence?
We are seeking an inspired and highly skilled Qualified Primary Teacher (QTS) to lead a class within our partner "Outstanding" SEN School in Cambridge. This role is designed for an educator who looks past a diagnosis to see a learner's potential. You will be responsible for a small class of primary-aged pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs, requiring a teacher who can blend high-quality pedagogy with a deeply nurturing approach.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Adaptive Curriculum Design: Take the Primary National Curriculum and translate it into "small-step," sensory-rich learning journeys tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
- Communication Leadership: Create a "Total Communication" environment, expertly using Makaton, PECS, and high-tech AAC devices to ensure every child is heard.
- Positive Co-Regulation: Design and maintain a low-arousal classroom environment, using Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to help students feel safe and regulated.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work in close partnership with onsite Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), Occupational Therapists (OT), and parents to provide a 360-degree support system.
- Team Management: Lead and inspire a team of 2-3 specialised Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to facilitate 1:1 and small-group learning.
- Holistic Assessment: Use specialist tracking tools (such as P-Scales or similar frameworks) to record and celebrate the functional, social, and academic progress of your pupils.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. We welcome experienced Primary teachers or ECTs with a proven heart for special education.
- Specialist Pedagogy: Familiarity with (or a hunger to master) frameworks such as Attention Autism, TEACCH, and Sensory Stories.
- Resilient Compassion: The ability to remain a calm, steady influence for your students, even during periods of high dysregulation.
- Creative Innovation: A knack for turning everyday objects into learning tools and finding "the hook" that engages a neurodiverse learner.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently via Randstad).
