The Role: Specialist KS2 SEN Teacher
A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and committed QTS SEN Teacher to join a highly regarded specialist primary provision in Peterborough. You will be teaching a small Key Stage 2 (ages 7-11) class of pupils with a range of learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). The provision focuses on a semi-formal pathway that balances core skills with functional, communication, and emotional regulation strategies.
This role is essential to providing a high-quality, personalised primary education. You will be responsible for leading the class, managing support staff, and ensuring the learning environment is conducive to meeting the unique needs and targets outlined in each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and highly-differentiated lessons across the KS2 curriculum, utilising a semi-formal and practical learning approach.
- Lead the classroom and the integrated support team, confidently implementing and coaching staff in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) techniques and consistent classroom routines.
- Create a sensory-aware, structured, and emotionally safe learning environment that promotes communication and reduces anxiety.
- Collaborate closely with parents, therapists, and the wider school leadership to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
- Oversee and actively contribute to the monitoring, recording, and reporting of student progress against academic and therapeutic EHCP targets.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Proven experience teaching pupils within the Primary (KS2) phase, with specialist experience in an SEN setting (mainstream or specialist school).
- Strong working knowledge and confidence in delivering a semi-formal, functional curriculum.
- Expert ability in applying Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and proactive de-escalation strategies.
- A calm, resilient, and compassionate nature, with a commitment to maintaining high expectations and fostering independence in young learners.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively direct and manage a team of Teaching Assistants.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
