Thetford
Are you a Primary Specialist who believes that 'Year Group' expectations matter less than 'Individual' breakthroughs?
We are seeking a creative, compassionate, and highly skilled Qualified Primary Teacher (QTS) to lead a class within our partner SEN School in Thetford. This role is perfect for a teacher who excels at "stage, not age" learning-someone who can take the Primary National Curriculum and dismantle it, rebuild it, and deliver it in a way that resonates with students with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex sensory needs.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Curriculum Adaptation: Adapt Primary-level Literacy, Numeracy, and Foundation subjects into highly visual, sensory, and "small-step" lessons.
- Holistic Class Leadership: Manage a class of 6-10 pupils, ensuring a low-arousal, highly structured environment that fosters both academic and emotional growth.
- Total Communication Integration: Expertly weave Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables into every lesson to ensure every child has a voice.
- EHCP Management: Lead on the assessment and tracking of student progress against Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, providing detailed reports for annual reviews.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT) and Occupational Therapists (OT) to embed therapeutic goals into the daily classroom routine.
- TA Mentorship: Lead and empower a team of specialised Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to support 1:1 and small-group interventions.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. We welcome experienced Primary teachers or ECTs with a genuine passion for Special Educational Needs.
- SEN Pedagogy: Familiarity with (or a willingness to learn) specialist frameworks such as Attention Autism (Bucket Therapy) and SCERTS.
- Resilient Compassion: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of student distress or challenging behaviour.
- Creative Problem-Solving: A knack for finding "the way in" for a child who struggles with traditional learning methods.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently via Randstad).
