Bury St Edmunds
Are you a visionary educator who defines success by the "small-step" breakthroughs that change a student's life?
We are seeking a dedicated and creative Qualified Teacher (QTS) to lead a class at our partner "Outstanding" SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role within a setting that supports pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges.
Your Responsibilities
- Bespoke Curriculum Delivery: Adapt the National Curriculum into highly personalised, sensory-based learning journeys that align with individual EHCP outcomes.
- Total Communication Leadership: Foster a communication-rich environment using Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to ensure every student can express their choices and needs.
- Positive Climate Management: Maintain a low-arousal, highly structured classroom, utilising Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and co-regulation strategies to help students feel safe and ready to learn.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team of therapists (SaLT, OT) and parents to provide a holistic 360-degree support system for each child.
- Team Empowerment: Lead and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to support 1:1 and small-group interventions.
- Holistic Assessment: Track and celebrate the functional, social, and academic progress of your pupils using specialist assessment frameworks.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced SEN teachers or Primary/Secondary specialists looking to transition into a specialist setting.
- SEN Pedagogy: A strong understanding of (or a desire to master) frameworks such as Attention Autism, TEACCH, or SCERTS.
- Resilient Compassion: The emotional intelligence to remain a calm, steady influence for your students, even during periods of high dysregulation.
- Commitment: Our students thrive on routine; we are looking for a dedicated professional who can commit to a full-time, consistent schedule.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently through Randstad).
