A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Qualified SEN Teacher to join our partner specialist school in Bury St Edmunds. This is a Full-Time long-term position, offering you the consistency and time needed to build deep, trusting relationships with your pupils and their families. You will be teaching a small class of students with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). Please note: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is a mandatory requirement for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Bespoke Instruction: Design and deliver a highly individualized curriculum that balances academic progress with essential life and social skills.
- Target Management: Manage and update Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, ensuring all learning is mapped to the specific needs of the child.
- Team Leadership: Manage a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, providing them with clear direction and support to ensure a unified classroom approach.
- Inclusive Environment: Create a sensory-appropriate and safe learning space that reduces anxiety and promotes engagement and curiosity.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and parents to support the child's holistic development.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Implement expert de-escalation and positive reinforcement strategies to maintain a calm and productive atmosphere.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
- Proven experience working within an SEN setting (Primary or Secondary age ranges considered).
- A patient, empathetic, and highly adaptable teaching style.
- Strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and experience in leading EHCP reviews.
- Excellent classroom management skills with a focus on well-being and positive outcomes.
- Ability to use alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) is highly desirable.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
