Bury St Edmunds
Are you an expert educator who sees the person, not the diagnosis?
Do you have the clinical skill to implement complex EHCP targets and the creative heart to build a curriculum that breathes life into learning for students with additional needs?
We are seeking a Qualified SEN Teacher to join an outstanding SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a professional who thrives in a high-support, low-arousal environment. You will be responsible for a small class of students with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges.
Your Role as a Specialist Leader
- Bespoke Curriculum Design: Move beyond "off-the-shelf" lesson plans to create multisensory, highly differentiated learning pathways tailored to each student's cognitive level.
- Classroom Team Leadership: Manage and inspire a dedicated team of 2-3 Teaching Assistants, ensuring a unified approach to student support and personal care.
- EHCP Strategy: Take ownership of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, turning complex clinical goals into daily classroom successes.
- Communication Advocacy: Utilise alternative communication methods-including Makaton, PECS, and Visual Timetables-to ensure every student has a functional voice.
- Therapeutic Integration: Work hand-in-hand with Speech and Language Therapists and OTs to embed therapy goals into the academic day.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is a mandatory requirement for this leadership position.
- SEN Expertise: Proven experience teaching children with complex needs or significant developmental delays.
- Resilience: The ability to remain calm, reflective, and proactive when supporting students with challenging behaviour or emotional dysregulation.
- Communication Skills: Excellence in collaborating with parents, social workers, and multidisciplinary medical teams.
- Vetting: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
