Bury St Edmunds
Are you a primary specialist who can turn a "learning plateau" into a launchpad for a child with complex needs?
Can you navigate the curiosity of the Key Stage 2 curriculum while providing the high-level emotional and sensory support that students in a specialist setting require?
We are seeking a Qualified KS2 SEN Teacher to lead a classroom in a highly respected specialist school in Bury St Edmunds. This role is designed for a teacher who understands that for children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, or MLD, the transition through the middle years of primary school is a vital time for building independence, communication, and social resilience.
Your Strategic Impact in KS2
- Adaptive Curriculum Mastery: Bridge the gap between the National Curriculum and the specific developmental levels of your students, ensuring lessons are tactile, visual, and highly engaging.
- Communication Enrichment: Lead a "Total Communication" classroom, modeling the use of Makaton, PECS, and Visual Timetables to reduce transition anxiety and empower student voice.
- Social & Emotional Mentorship: Implement Zones of Regulation or similar frameworks to help students identify their feelings and utilise self-soothing tools effectively.
- EHCP Milestone Leadership: Take ownership of student assessments, utilising "small-step" tracking to document the nuanced progress typical in specialist settings and feeding back to parents and the multidisciplinary team.
- Sensory Integration: Incorporate Sensory Circuits and "brain breaks" into the daily timetable to ensure students remain regulated and ready to access their learning.
- Team Direction: Lead a team of Teaching Assistants to deliver high-impact 1:1 interventions, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and personal care goals.
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced Primary teachers or those with a dedicated background in SEN.
- Inclusive Pedagogy: Knowledge of specialist frameworks such as Attention Autism (Bucket Time) or Colourful Semantics.
- Resilient Calm: The ability to remain a grounded, co-regulating influence during periods of student distress or behavioural challenge.
- Collaborative Heart: A desire to work closely with the SENCO, therapists, and families to create a 360-degree support network for every child.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
