Bury St Edmunds
Are you a Teacher who finds the greatest professional joy in the "breakthrough moments" that others might overlook?
Do you have the creativity to adapt a traditional curriculum into a series of accessible, sensory-rich, and deeply engaging learning experiences for students who see the world differently?
We are seeking an inspiring Qualified SEN Teacher to join a wonderful, heart-centred SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role for a practitioner who thrives in high-support settings, working with pupils who have Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. In this school, you are more than a teacher; you are an advocate for independence and a champion for every child's unique potential.
Your Responsibilities
- Curriculum Customisation: Design and implement highly individualised learning programs that balance academic progress with vital life skills and sensory integration.
- Communication Advocacy: Lead a "Total Communication" classroom, seamlessly integrating Makaton, PECS, and AAC devices to ensure every student can express their needs and ideas.
- Progress Tracking: Utilise specialised "small-steps" assessment frameworks to record and celebrate development toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Positive Regulation: Create a low-arousal, highly structured environment that priorities emotional safety and utilises Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support.
- Multidisciplinary Partnership: Collaborate with onsite therapists, families, and external agencies to provide a holistic, 360-degree approach to each student's wellbeing.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced SEN specialists or mainstream teachers with a profound commitment to special education.
- Pedagogical Versatility: A deep understanding of-or a strong desire to master-frameworks like Attention Autism (The Bucket Time), TEACCH, and Sensory Stories.
- Resilient Compassion: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during challenging moments, leading your team with empathy and professional poise.
- Inclusive Advocacy: A genuine drive to ensure your students are treated with dignity and are empowered to reach their full potential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
