- Targeted Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of specialist Teaching Assistants, ensuring high-quality 1:1 intervention and safe classroom practice.
- EHCP Mastery: Take full responsibility for the tracking and review of Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, providing data-driven insights into student growth.
- Behaviour for Learning: Implement advanced positive behaviour support (PBS) and de-escalation strategies to maintain a calm, sensory-safe environment.
- Complex Communication: Utilise and lead the use of communication aids (PECS, Makaton, or AAC) to ensure every child has a functional voice in the classroom.
- Multidisciplinary Liaison: Act as a key link between the school, therapeutic teams, and families to ensure a holistic support network for every pupil.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is mandatory.
- Experience: Proven track record of teaching in an SEN setting; this role is not suitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).
- Subject Knowledge: Deep understanding of KS2 developmental milestones and how to adapt them for students with significant learning barriers.
- Leadership: Strong classroom management skills and the ability to direct a team of support staff with confidence.
- Resilience: A calm, solution-focused approach to the daily challenges of a specialist provision.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
