Cambridge
Are you a visionary educator looking to secure your next career milestone for the new academic year?
Do you have the professional creativity to dismantle a traditional curriculum and rebuild it into a series of accessible, sensory-rich, and deeply engaging learning experiences for neurodiverse students?
We are seeking a highly skilled Qualified SEN Teacher for a September start at a well regarded SEN School in Cambridge. This role is designed for a practitioner who excels in high-support settings, specifically working with pupils who have Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. In this environment, you aren't just a teacher; you are an architect of independence and a champion for every child's unique way of learning.
Your Responsibilities
- Curriculum Innovation: Design and implement a bespoke, sensory-integrated curriculum that meets the academic and functional life-skills needs of every student.
- Communication Leadership: Embed a "Total Communication" culture within your classroom, utilising Makaton, PECS, and AAC devices to ensure every voice is heard.
- Individualised Progress Mapping: Take ownership of student assessments, utilising "small-steps" trackers to document and celebrate progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS): Create and maintain a low-arousal, highly structured learning environment that priorities emotional regulation and student wellbeing.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Partner with parents, Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), and Occupational Therapists to provide a holistic, 360-degree support system for your pupils.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is a mandatory requirement. We welcome applications from experienced SEN specialists or mainstream teachers with a profound commitment to special education.
- Specialist Knowledge: A deep understanding of evidence-based frameworks such as TEACCH, Attention Autism (Bucket Time), or Sensory Stories.
- Resilient Leadership: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during challenging moments, leading your team with confidence and empathy.
- Advocacy and Compassion: A genuine drive to ensure your students are treated with dignity and are empowered to reach their full potential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one via Randstad).
