Cambridge
Are you an educator who measures success not just by grades, but by the growth of independence, confidence, and communication?
Do you have the professional agility to move between sensory-based play and structured academic support, all while maintaining a calm and nurturing environment?
We are searching for a highly skilled Qualified SEN Teacher to join a prestigious, well-regarded SEN School in Cambridge. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about neurodiversity and dedicated to providing a "best-in-class" educational experience for students with Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). In this setting, your creativity is your greatest tool, allowing you to unlock potential that traditional methods might miss.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Customised Learning Journeys: Develop and deliver a highly individualised curriculum that balances academic milestones with essential life skills and sensory integration.
- Total Communication Leadership: Pioneer the use of PECS, Makaton, and high-tech communication aids to ensure every student, regardless of verbal ability, has a voice.
- Positive Co-Regulation: Implement sophisticated behaviour support plans that prioritise de-escalation and emotional safety, keeping the classroom a low-arousal sanctuary for learning.
- EHCP Mastery: Lead the assessment and tracking process for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring every small victory is recorded and every target is meaningful.
- Collaborative Command: Manage a skilled team of Teaching Assistants, fostering a culture of mutual respect and high expectations for student care.
- Clinical Partnership: Liaise daily with a multidisciplinary team-including OTs, SaLTs, and Physiotherapists-to provide a holistic wrap-around support system.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from seasoned SEN experts or mainstream teachers with a profound commitment to inclusive education.
- Specialist Toolkit: Proficiency in SEN-specific frameworks such as Attention Autism (The Bucket), Sensory Stories, or TEACCH.
- Emotional Intelligence: The ability to remain a grounded, steadying influence for your students and staff, even during moments of high intensity.
- A "People-First" Approach: A genuine belief in the dignity of the child and a commitment to fostering a school environment where everyone belongs.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
