Cambridge
Are you an educator who measures success by the strength of a student's confidence rather than the marks on a page?
Do you have the professional agility to move between sensory storytelling, functional life skills, and core academic support, all while maintaining a calm and nurturing classroom?
We are seeking a high-caliber Qualified SEN Teacher to join our partner SEN School in the historic city of Cambridge. This "Outstanding" rated provision is a hub of innovation, supporting pupils with a diverse range of needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD). In this role, you aren't just teaching a curriculum-you are building the foundation for a life of greater independence and joy.
Your Responsibilities
- Adaptive Curriculum Mastery: Create and lead a bespoke, sensory-rich curriculum that aligns with Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes while remaining flexible to the daily needs of your learners.
- Communication Leadership: Champion a "Total Communication" environment, expertly utilising Makaton, PECS, and high-tech communication aids to ensure every student is heard.
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS): Design and maintain a low-arousal, highly structured classroom environment that fosters emotional regulation and a sense of safety.
- Holistic Assessment: Use "small-steps" progress trackers to provide meaningful data on student growth, celebrating every milestone with families and the multidisciplinary team.
- Classroom Team Management: Lead and inspire a team of specialised Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are empowered and effectively deployed to support individual student targets.
- Collaborative Practice: Work closely with onsite Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), Occupational Therapists (OT), and parents to ensure a 360-degree approach to student development.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is essential. We welcome applications from seasoned SEN practitioners or mainstream teachers with a passionate commitment to special education.
- Specialist Pedagogy: Familiarity with (or a hunger to learn) frameworks such as Attention Autism, SCERTS, and TEACCH.
- Resilient Compassion: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of student distress or challenging behaviour.
- Creative Problem-Solving: You see barriers as puzzles to be solved, always finding new ways to make learning accessible and engaging.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently via Randstad).
