Cambridge
Are you an educator who believes that every "small win" is actually a milestone worth celebrating?
Do you have the professional agility to adapt a complex curriculum into sensory-rich, accessible lessons that meet students exactly where they are?
We are seeking a visionary Qualified SEN Teacher (QTS) to join an "Outstanding" SEN School in the heart of Cambridge. This is a full-time, long-term position working with children and young people who have diverse needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication profiles. In this Cambridge-based role, you won't just be leading a classroom; you'll be the architect of an environment where students feel safe to explore, learn, and grow at their own pace.
Your Responsibilities
- Bespoke Curriculum Design: Create and deliver individualised learning pathways that balance core academic progress with vital functional life skills and sensory integration.
- Communication Leadership: Foster a "Total Communication" environment by integrating Makaton, PECS, and high-tech AAC devices into every lesson.
- Positive Climate Management: Maintain a low-arousal, highly structured classroom that priorities emotional regulation and utilises Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies.
- EHCP Goal Alignment: Map all learning activities to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, providing detailed evidence of "small-step" progress.
- Team Empowerment: Direct and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to support 1:1 and small-group interventions.
- Collaborative Practice: Work in partnership with Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT), Occupational Therapists (OT), and families to provide a holistic support network for every learner.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential. We welcome applications from experienced SEN practitioners or mainstream teachers with a profound commitment to neurodiversity.
- Specialist Pedagogy: A deep understanding of-or a strong desire to learn-frameworks such as Attention Autism, SCERTS, and TEACCH.
- Resilient Leadership: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of student dysregulation or high-pressure moments.
- Inclusive Advocacy: A genuine passion for ensuring that students with complex needs are treated with the highest level of dignity, respect, and ambition.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
