Felixstowe
Are you an educator who believes that a student's potential is limitless when met with the right support, compassion, and professional creativity?
Do you have the vision to look past a diagnosis and see a unique learner who simply needs a different path to success?
We are searching for an exceptional Qualified SEN Teacher to join a well regarded SEN School in Felixstowe. This is a full-time, long-term role within a highly supportive environment dedicated to students with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges. In this school, you aren't just delivering a lesson; you are building the foundations for independence and confidence.
Your Strategic Impact: Responsibilities
- Adaptive Curriculum Delivery: Design and implement a bespoke, sensory-rich curriculum that prioritises functional life skills alongside academic progress.
- Communication Advocacy: Foster a "Total Communication" environment, integrating Makaton, PECS, and visual schedules into every aspect of the school day.
- Co-Regulation & Support: Utilise Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies to maintain a calm, low-arousal environment where students feel safe to explore and learn.
- EHCP Management: Take ownership of tracking and reporting small-step progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, collaborating closely with families and external specialists.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring high-quality, 1:1 support is consistently delivered.
- Holistic Development: Work alongside Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT) and Occupational Therapists to ensure a 360-degree approach to student wellbeing.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from experienced SEN practitioners or mainstream teachers with a profound heart for special education.
- Specialist Knowledge: Familiarity with frameworks such as Attention Autism (Bucket Time), TEACCH, or Sensory Stories is highly desirable.
- Emotional Resilience: The ability to remain a "calm anchor" during challenging moments, leading your classroom with empathy and professional composure.
- Inclusive Mindset: A genuine commitment to the dignity of every student and a drive to celebrate even the smallest "inch-stone" victories.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
