Stowmarket
Are you a dedicated educator who believes that every child deserves a bespoke pathway to success, regardless of the challenges they face?
Do you have the professional imagination to turn a standard lesson into a sensory-rich, accessible experience that resonates with neurodiverse learners?
We are looking for a compassionate and resilient Qualified SEN Teacher to join a highly regarded SEN School in Stowmarket. This full-time, long-term position is ideal for a practitioner who excels in high-support environments, working with students who have Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and associated communication needs. In this Stowmarket setting, you will be part of a team that views "disability" as "different ability," focusing on what every student can achieve.
Your Responsibilities
- Tailored Curriculum Delivery: Craft and implement individualised learning programs that prioritise functional communication, life skills, and emotional regulation alongside core academics.
- Communication Specialist: Foster an inclusive environment using Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to ensure students with limited verbal communication can fully participate in school life.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Utilise de-escalation techniques and low-arousal strategies to create a safe, predictable, and nurturing classroom atmosphere.
- EHCP Management: Lead the monitoring and reporting of student progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) milestones, ensuring every "small-step" victory is documented.
- Classroom Leadership: Manage and inspire a team of Teaching Assistants, ensuring a cohesive approach to 1:1 and small-group interventions.
- Collaborative Practice: Work closely with parents, caregivers, and multidisciplinary professionals (SaLTs, OTs) to provide a holistic support network for your pupils.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is a mandatory requirement. We welcome applications from seasoned SEN teachers or mainstream practitioners ready to transition into special education.
- Adaptable Pedagogy: A solid understanding of SEN frameworks such as TEACCH, Attention Autism, or Sensory Integration.
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of student dysregulation or challenge.
- Advocacy: A deep commitment to student dignity, ensuring that every learner is empowered to develop their independence.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one via Randstad).
