Sudbury
Are you an educator who sees the "extraordinary" in every student and has the skill to help them find it?
Can you turn a classroom into a sanctuary of learning where sensory needs are anticipated, communication is celebrated, and "small steps" are recognised as massive milestones?
We are seeking a Qualified SEN Teacher to lead a specialist classroom in Sudbury. This position is for a practitioner who understands that for students with complex needs-such as Autism (ASC), MLD, or SLCN-the environment is just as important as the lesson plan. You will be the lead architect of an inclusive space where students feel safe enough to explore their potential and develop the life skills they need for the future.
Your Strategic Impact
- Curriculum Customisation: Deliver a highly bespoke curriculum that blends core academic goals with functional life skills, social-emotional development, and sensory integration.
- Lead the Support Team: Direct and mentor a team of specialized Teaching Assistants, ensuring they are effectively deployed to facilitate 1:1 interventions and group regulation.
- Total Communication Environment: Champion the use of Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to ensure every student-regardless of verbal ability-can express their needs and participate in learning.
- Targeted EHCP Progress: Take ownership of student assessments, utilizing "small-step" trackers to document the nuanced progress typical in specialist settings.
- Regulated Learning Space: Implement Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Zones of Regulation frameworks to help students identify their emotional states and utilize self-soothing tools.
- Multidisciplinary Liaison: Collaborate with parents, Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs), and the SENCO to ensure a unified, 360-degree approach to each child's development.
What You'll Bring
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): This is mandatory. We welcome applications from seasoned SEN teachers or mainstream teachers with a strong interest in transitioning to specialist education.
- Inclusive Pedagogy: Familiarity with evidence-based SEN frameworks such as Attention Autism, SCERTS, or TEACCH.
- Calm Resilience: The ability to remain a grounded, co-regulating influence for students during moments of dysregulation or distress.
- Empathetic Leadership: A genuine passion for mentoring your support staff and advocating for the dignity and rights of your pupils.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one via Randstad).
Why Lead with Randstad Sudbury?
