The Role: Vital Support in Soham
A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a committed partner SEN school in Soham. This role is essential to the provision of quality education, requiring you to offer one-to-one and small group support to pupils with diverse and complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication needs, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. Your daily presence will directly contribute to creating a stable and enriching learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
...- Provide crucial tailored support to students, helping them to focus on tasks, manage transitions, and participate actively in differentiated lessons.
- Work closely with the class teacher to adapt resources, set up activities, and ensure the learning space meets the sensory and practical needs of the pupils.
- Implement specific strategies outlined in students' support plans, including those related to behaviour intervention and communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
- Be a consistent emotional anchor, offering calm de-escalation support and promoting positive coping mechanisms during challenging moments.
- Contribute to monitoring and reporting on pupil progress, engagement, and overall well-being.
- Assist with pupils' mobility and personal care needs as required, ensuring tasks are carried out with professionalism and respect.
Requirements
- Proven experience supporting children or young people, specifically those with complex Special Educational Needs, is essential.
- A naturally calm, compassionate, and highly resilient temperament, with a genuine enthusiasm for the specialist environment.
- The ability to establish strong, professional, and positive relationships with both pupils and staff quickly.
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and observational skills.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
