The Role: Vital Support in Thetford
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a highly supportive partner SEN school in Thetford. We are seeking proactive individuals to provide crucial one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a wide spectrum of needs, which may include Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), severe learning difficulties, communication challenges, and physical disabilities. Your dedication will directly contribute to creating a structured, nurturing, and effective learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential tailored support to students, helping them to focus, engage with tasks, and access the differentiated curriculum.
- Assist the Class Teacher in preparing resources, managing classroom logistics, and ensuring the learning environment is safe and well-organised.
- Implement specific pupil support strategies from their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including those related to communication, behaviour, and sensory regulation.
- Support pupils' emotional and social development, offering calm de-escalation support during moments of distress and promoting positive peer interactions.
- Contribute to accurate observation and record-keeping regarding pupil progress, well-being, and daily achievements.
- Assist with pupils' personal care needs and mobility where required, always maintaining the highest level of respect and privacy.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a support role with children or young people, particularly those with complex or diverse Special Educational Needs, is essential.
- A naturally calm, compassionate, and highly resilient temperament, with a genuine enthusiasm for specialist education.
- The ability to establish strong, professional, and trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Excellent observational, teamwork, and reliable communication skills.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
