The Opportunity:
We are searching for a dynamic, highly empathetic, and reliable SEN Learning Support Assistant to join the committed faculty at a respected SEN School in Quidenham. This position is offered initially on a temporary contract, with a high likelihood of transitioning into a permanent post or long-term extension based on performance.
This role is central to the school's mission of providing highly tailored education. You will collaborate closely with the Class Teacher, occupational therapists, and speech and language specialists, playing a key role in adapting learning materials, organising classroom activities, and critically, offering intensive, direct support to students. Your primary focus will be the effective execution of strategies detailed in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to foster communication, facilitate mobility, manage complex sensory needs, and promote independence, thus significantly improving the daily learning experience and quality of life for the students.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted, high-impact support to individual students or small learning groups, enabling them to fully access the bespoke curriculum and achieve their documented EHCP objectives.
- Work in tandem with the class teacher on preparing necessary educational resources, maintaining a safe and stimulating classroom setting, and contributing to general class organisation.
- Provide sensitive and dignified assistance with personal care requirements, which may include feeding, manual handling, and hygiene support, always respecting the students' privacy.
- Implement specialised communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton) and established positive behaviour support frameworks as advised by the multi-disciplinary team.
- Meticulously document and communicate student progress, observed behaviours, and any welfare concerns to the teaching staff and relevant professionals.
- Actively uphold the school's commitment to safeguarding and contribute positively to the inclusive school culture.
Candidate Profile (Essential Criteria)
- Substantial and verifiable experience working as a Support Assistant, preferably within a specialist SEN or complex needs environment.
- While a relevant qualification (Level 2/3 TA or equivalent) is advantageous, candidates demonstrating extensive and relevant practical experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated competency in supporting learners with diverse and complex needs, such as PMLD, SLD, and ASC.
- Possesses exceptional patience, robustness, flexibility, and a deep-seated desire to support children and young people facing educational barriers.
- Familiarity with various communication aids and structured approaches to managing challenging behaviour.
- Must hold a current Enhanced Child DBS registered on the Update Service, or be prepared to secure one immediately.
Remuneration & Benefits
