The Role: Dedicated Support in Bury St EdmundsWe are searching for a highly dependable and skilled SEN Learning Support Specialist / Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our successful partner SEN School situated close to Bury St Edmunds.
This is a key, hands-on role focusing on delivering personalised academic and behavioural support. You will be working with students across various key stages who have complex needs, including Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and challenging behaviour. Your commitment will be crucial in fostering a safe, encouraging, and highly productive educational atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential individualised assistance, helping students maintain focus, adhere to routines, and access adapted learning activities within the classroom.
- Work closely with the teaching staff and multi-agency teams to prepare and modify learning resources, ensuring the environment is perfectly aligned with the students' specific needs.
- Skillfully implement individual education and behaviour plans, utilising appropriate communication and de-escalation techniques tailored to each student.
- Act as a stable, positive mentor, helping students develop crucial self-regulation and social interaction skills during the school day.
- Diligently monitor and record observations on student performance, engagement levels, and overall well-being to inform future planning and reviews.
- Offer professional and discreet support with personal care, mobility, and feeding needs as required, always prioritising the student's dignity and comfort.
Essential Requirements
- Significant previous experience in supporting children or young adults with complex SEN, ideally within a specialised educational or residential setting.
- A naturally calm, empathetic, and exceptionally resilient temperament, with a genuine desire to work within this specialist environment.
- Proven ability to quickly form professional, positive, and trusting relationships with young people who may find connecting difficult.
- Superb communication, observational, and teamwork skills.
- An active Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the willingness to rapidly begin the application process for one).
