A fantastic opportunity has opened for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner school in Bury St Edmunds. We are looking for an empathetic professional to provide high-quality, personalised support to students with diverse needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding role for someone dedicated to breaking down barriers to learning and enhancing the educational journey of young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver tailored one-to-one and small group interventions to help students access the curriculum and thrive in the classroom.
- Work closely with the class teacher to modify learning materials and implement sensory or visual aids as required.
- Nurture student well-being by applying positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
- Track and document student achievements, providing feedback toward their EHCP objectives and individual targets.
- Promote student autonomy and confidence by creating a safe, encouraging, and highly structured learning space.
- Help maintain a cohesive support network by coordinating effectively with the wider school staff and external specialists.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience supporting children with additional needs (such as ASD, ADHD, or SEMH) is a significant advantage.
- A calm, flexible, and patient temperament, with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the classroom.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to build meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Familiarity with the SEN Code of Practice and the purpose of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or HLTA) are welcomed, though practical experience is highly valued.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one).
