Bury St Edmunds
Do you have compassion to see past a student's frustration and the heart to celebrate their smallest "lightbulb" moments?
Are you looking for a Full-Time role in Bury St Edmunds where your presence provides the security and stability a young person needs to thrive?
If you are a resilient, empathetic professional who believes that every child deserves a champion, we want to hear from you!
An impactful opportunity has arisen for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated specialist team in Bury St Edmunds. This isn't just a job in a classroom; it is an opportunity to be an advocate and mentor for students with complex learning needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, and moderate to severe learning difficulties. You will be the "anchor" in a student's day, helping them navigate a tailored curriculum designed to build their confidence and life skills.
Why This Role Matters
- 1:1 Mentorship: You will provide dedicated support to students, helping them manage their emotions and stay engaged with their personalised learning tasks.
- Independence Coaching: You will guide learners through daily routines, teaching them the vital social and life skills they need to navigate the world independently.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Working alongside specialist teachers, you will help "translate" lessons into sensory-friendly or simplified formats that match the student's unique learning style.
- EHCP Advocacy: You will play a key role in tracking and achieving the specific goals laid out in each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Safe Haven Creation: You will help maintain a calm, low-arousal environment, using positive behaviour strategies to ensure every student feels safe to take risks and learn.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: A background in supporting individuals with additional needs, whether in a school, care, or community setting.
- Resilience: The ability to remain calm and supportive during challenging behavioural moments, always maintaining a positive outlook.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use (or a willingness to learn) alternative communication methods like PECS or Makaton.
- Team Spirit: A collaborative approach, working hand-in-hand with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide holistic care.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one).
What We Offer
- Competitive Pay: Weekly pay of £90 - £95 per day via PAYE.
- Stable Schedule: A consistent, full-time contract within a supportive Bury St Edmunds school.
- Expert Training: Access to Randstad's premium CPD library, including specialised modules on Autism awareness and de-escalation.
- Career Growth: Invaluable experience for those looking to progress into teaching, psychology, or speech therapy.
