Bury St Edmunds
Are you a compassionate, resilient individual who understands that for some students, a simple smile or a steady presence is the most important part of their school day?
Can you look past a challenging moment to see the unique personality and potential of a child who communicates differently?
We are looking for a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly-regarded SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to work within a dedicated environment supporting children and young people with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing differences. In this Bury St Edmunds setting, you aren't just "helping in a classroom"-you are becoming a vital part of a student's support system.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Mentorship: Work closely with assigned students to deliver tailored, sensory-friendly activities that make the curriculum accessible and fun.
- Communication Bridge: Facilitate student expression through Makaton signs, PECS cards, or visual schedules, ensuring every student has a way to share their voice.
- Emotional Co-Regulation: Identify early signs of sensory overwhelm and use "brain breaks" or calming techniques to help students maintain a state of emotional safety.
- EHCP Milestone Tracking: Assist the Class Teacher in documenting the small, significant steps students take toward their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) goals.
- Personal Care with Dignity: Provide essential support with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene, always prioritising the student's respect and comfort.
- Collaborative Support: Partner with a skilled team of Teachers and Therapists to ensure a consistent, predictable, and nurturing environment for every learner.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a "calm anchor" for students when they are feeling overwhelmed or exhibiting challenging behaviour.
- Proactive Intuition: A "can-do" attitude and the ability to anticipate a student's needs before they become a barrier to learning.
- Unwavering Reliability: Our students thrive on routine and familiar faces; we need a professional who is committed to being there for them every day.
- Transferable Skills: Backgrounds in care, support work, psychology, or even creative arts are highly valued, though a genuine heart for SEN is the most important asset.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
- Competitive PAYE Rates: £90 - £95 per day, with transparent weekly pay and no hidden umbrella company deductions.
- Bury St Edmunds Stability: Secure a consistent, full-time role in a school that values staff wellbeing and specialist growth.
- Specialist CPD: Access free, certified training in Team Teach, Autism Awareness, and Safeguarding.
- Personal Support: Work with Neeraj, your dedicated consultant who understands the Suffolk SEN landscape and will advocate for your career.
- Referral Bonus: Earn a £300 voucher for every friend or colleague you successfully refer who joins the Randstad team!
