Bury St Edmunds
Are you ready to be the daily difference-maker for students who see and experience the world in a unique way?
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful SEN School in Bury St Edmunds. This is a full-time, long-term role within a school that provides an "Outstanding" environment for pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. In this Bury St Edmunds setting, you won't just be "helping out"-you will be the essential support system that allows a student to feel safe, successful, and truly understood.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Personalised 1:1 Support: Deliver tailored, sensory-integrated activities that cater to the specific cognitive and emotional profile of your assigned student.
- Communication Advocacy: Empower non-verbal or pre-verbal learners using PECS, Makaton, and visual choice boards, ensuring every student has a voice.
- Sensory Regulation: Identify environmental triggers early and utilise "brain breaks" or sensory circuit sessions to help students maintain emotional balance.
- Classroom Teamwork: Work as a proactive "right hand" to the Class Teacher, jumping in to support small group interventions and creative learning tasks.
- Progress Recording: Assist in documenting the "small-step" victories that form the evidence for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews.
- Dignity in Care: Provide essential assistance with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene with the highest level of respect, maintaining the student's comfort.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: A naturally calm and nurturing temperament, particularly when supporting students through periods of dysregulation.
- Proactive Spirit: A "can-do" attitude-you anticipate needs and prepare resources to ensure the school day runs smoothly.
- Commitment to Consistency: Our students rely on routine; we are looking for a dedicated professional who can commit to a long-term, full-time schedule.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, healthcare, care work, or youth coaching is highly valued, but a genuine heart for supporting neurodiverse learners is essential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
