The Role: Making an Impact in CambridgeThis is an excellent opening for a motivated and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to become part of a well-established specialist SEN academy located right in the heart of Cambridge.
This role is absolutely crucial to the school's capacity to deliver high-quality, highly individualised education. You will be providing essential support, typically in one-to-one or small group settings, for pupils presenting with a broad spectrum of complex needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Your daily efforts will directly contribute to creating a stable, inclusive, and enriching environment for these young learners.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver vital, customised support, enabling students to access highly differentiated curriculum content, manage sensory overload, and participate fully in lessons.
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., therapists) to modify learning resources, set up specialised activities, and ensure the learning space is suitable for sensory and accessibility needs.
- Implement specific therapeutic, communication, and behavioural strategies outlined in each student's Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), which may include the use of non-verbal communication systems.
- Act as a consistent and calm emotional anchor, using skilled de-escalation techniques and promoting functional communication during moments of significant distress.
- Contribute to ongoing observation and accurate recording of pupil progress, engagement levels, and overall holistic development.
- Assist students with personal care, mobility, and feeding when necessary, ensuring all tasks are performed with the utmost dignity, professionalism, and respect.
- Proven experience supporting children or young people, with direct experience in a specialist SEN environment or with pupils with complex needs being highly beneficial.
- A naturally calm, deeply compassionate nature, strong resilience, and a genuine desire to work within a specialist educational setting.
- The ability to quickly forge professional, trusting, and positive relationships with pupils, their parents, and all school staff.
- Excellent observation, communication, and teamwork skills, particularly in noting and responding to subtle, non-verbal communication.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS registered on the update service (or the willingness to obtain one promptly).
- A competitive and consistent daily pay rate of £90 - £95.
