The Position: Essential Support in MiltonWe are recruiting for an exciting position for a proactive and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to become a core part of a highly respected specialist SEN academy serving the Milton area (just north of Cambridge).
This role is absolutely critical to the school's ability to provide high-quality, profoundly individualised education. You will deliver essential support, typically in one-to-one or small group settings, for pupils who present with a diverse range of complex needs, including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Your proactive daily efforts will directly contribute to fostering a stable, inclusive, and rewarding educational journey.
Your Core Responsibilities- Provide essential, individualised assistance, empowering students to access highly differentiated learning content, manage sensory input, and engage fully with lessons and activities.
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and specialist support teams (e.g., therapists) to modify resources, set up therapeutic activities, and ensure the physical learning space is adapted for accessibility and sensory needs.
- Implement specific therapeutic, communication, and behavioural strategies as detailed in each student's Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), which may involve using specialist non-verbal communication systems.
- Serve as a consistent and reliable emotional anchor, skilfully employing de-escalation techniques and promoting constructive communication during moments of distress.
- Contribute to the ongoing observation, assessment, and accurate documentation of student participation, progress, and overall holistic development.
- Assist students with essential personal care, mealtimes, and mobility when necessary, ensuring all tasks are executed with the utmost dignity, professionalism, and respect.
- Demonstrated background in supporting children or young people, with direct experience in a specialist SEN environment or with pupils with complex needs being highly desirable.
- A naturally calm, deeply empathetic, and highly resilient disposition, with a clear passion for the special education sector.
- The ability to quickly build sincere, professional, and trusting relationships with students, parents, and all school colleagues.
- Excellent observation, communication, and teamwork skills, particularly in interpreting and reacting to subtle non-verbal cues.
- An up-to-date Enhanced Child DBS registered with the update service (or a readiness to process an application without delay).
- A competitive and consistent daily pay rate of £90 - £95.
