The Role :
We are excited to advertise for a skilled and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly successful school/provision located in the Cambridge area.
This demanding and rewarding position involves providing targeted academic, social, and emotional support to individual pupils or small groups across various key stages. The students require assistance due to specific learning difficulties, challenges with emotional regulation, or needing support to navigate the mainstream curriculum effectively. You will be expected to work independently, implement individualised learning plans, and foster a sense of belonging and confidence in the pupils you support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group academic support, helping students to access the differentiated curriculum and achieve their learning targets.
- Implement support strategies for pupils with SEMH needs, focusing on developing their coping mechanisms, social skills, and emotional literacy within the school environment.
- Assist the Class Teacher or SENCO in creating bespoke learning resources and adapting classroom materials to meet diverse learner needs.
- Monitor and record student behaviour, engagement, and progress against their EHCP/IEP goals, providing clear and detailed feedback to teaching staff.
- Act as a key worker/mentor for specific students, helping them manage transitions, organisation, and communication with peers and staff.
- Participate actively in review meetings, contributing insights from your daily interactions to inform future support planning.
- Help maintain a calm, supportive, and well-structured classroom and resource area.
Requirements
- Proven, recent experience supporting students with SEN, particularly those with ASD, SEMH, and/or MLD, in either a mainstream or specialist setting.
- A qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Psychology) is highly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience of different supportive communication strategies and behaviour management techniques.
- Exceptional ability to quickly build rapport and professional trust with students who may present as withdrawn or challenging.
- High levels of initiative, organisation, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
