The Role in Detail:This critical vacancy calls for an empathetic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join the expert team at a respected specialist school in Cambridge. This position is offered initially as a contract role with a very strong likelihood of extension or transition to permanent employment.
Your primary function will be to act as the student's essential link to the curriculum, working directly under the guidance of the Class Teacher and specialist staff. You will be responsible for translating educational and therapeutic goals from Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) into practical, daily support. Your duties will span all aspects of the school day, including academic assistance, resource management, implementation of complex communication strategies, and providing all necessary personal and medical care support to ensure the student's holistic well-being and maximum participation.
Core Daily Responsibilities- Provide consistent, bespoke support to individuals or small groups to enhance learning accessibility and ensure EHCP targets are achieved.
- Collaborate efficiently with teaching staff to prepare highly differentiated learning materials and maintain a safe, stimulating classroom setup.
- Confidently manage and de-escalate complex behaviours using school-approved positive intervention strategies.
- Offer professional, discreet support with personal care needs (e.g., toileting, manual handling, feeding) when required.
- Utilise and reinforce specific communication tools and aids (e.g., PECS, intensive interaction, communication devices).
- Accurately document and feedback on student progress, behaviour, and any changes in needs to the designated teacher.
- Extensive professional experience gained as a Teaching Assistant, with a focus on working in an SEN setting.
- Relevant formal training or qualification (e.g., Level 3 Teaching Assistant, Health and Social Care qualification) is preferred.
- Demonstrable skill in supporting students with a variety of complex SEN (e.g., PMLD, SLD, challenging behaviour).
- Exceptional levels of resilience, patience, and a calm, authoritative classroom presence.
- Practical knowledge of manual handling techniques and complex personal care protocols is beneficial.
- Must hold a valid Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply immediately).
- An attractive daily pay rate ranging from £90 to £95
