The Opportunity:
We are recruiting for a pivotal Full-Time SEN Support Mentor to dedicate themselves to a long-term role within a respected Impington school/provision, beginning in January 2026. This role serves as a crucial link between the student and the curriculum, supporting individuals who require highly structured and tailored interventions.
Your function will be to provide intensive in-class and out-of-class assistance, driving engagement, modifying materials, and expertly implementing behavioural and learning strategies devised by the SEN team. You will be instrumental in fostering student autonomy, enhancing their communication skills, and ensuring a safe, consistent environment that allows them to achieve their personal best.
Core Responsibilities:
- Delivering high-impact, individualised interventions focusing on literacy, numeracy, and emotional literacy, as directed by the SENCO.
- Skillfully managing and de-escalating challenging behaviours using recognised, positive techniques to maintain a focused learning atmosphere.
- Working collaboratively with teachers and external agencies (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists) to review and adjust student support plans.
- Creating, adapting, and managing high-quality visual and learning resources tailored to the needs of students with SpLD and SEMH.
- Maintaining accurate, detailed records of student performance, engagement levels, and incidents, communicating effectively with parents and staff.
- Upholding the school's high standards for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students.
Essential Profile:
- Demonstrable and successful history of working directly with students (or clients) who have significant emotional, behavioural, or complex learning needs.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, Health & Social Care) are preferred, alongside evidence of continuous professional development in SEN fields.
- Exceptional competency in applying positive behaviour support strategies and maintaining composure in highly challenging situations.
- An inherent capacity for empathy, professionalism, and consistent reliability-key attributes for a full-time support role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, necessary for detailed reporting and effective team collaboration.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or immediate willingness to obtain one).
- Unrestricted availability to commit to the full-time role commencing January 2026.
