An inspiring opportunity has arisen for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN School in Cambridge. In this role, you will provide vital 1:1 and small group assistance, ensuring that students with learning difficulties feel empowered and included. You will work closely with the class teacher to adapt activities and create a safe, sensory-safe environment where every student can achieve their personal best.
Key Responsibilities
- Empowering Learners: Support students with learning difficulties and disabilities to become independent and successfully access the curriculum.
- 1:1 Support: Work directly with young people to facilitate communication and engagement using tailored strategies.
- Resource Adaptation: Modify classroom materials, such as enlarging text or simplifying language, to ensure accessibility for all students.
- EHCP Implementation: Assist students in reaching their personalised learning outcomes and targets as outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
- Holistic Care: Provide supervision and support outside the formal classroom setting, including during breaks, lunchtimes, and on pre-arranged school trips.
- Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate records relating to student attendance, target-setting, and daily progression.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven track record of working with young people with learning difficulties or disabilities.
- Communication Skills: Strong literacy and numeracy skills to assist with note-taking, reading, and defining language.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working across a wide variety of learning environments and situations.
- Advocacy: A strong commitment to championing inclusion and promoting student independence.
- Compliance: An Enhanced Child & Adult DBS check is required (or willingness to undergo one).
