Cambridge
Do you have the compassion to see beyond a student's frustration and the heart to celebrate their smallest "lightbulb" moments?
Are you seeking a Full-Time role in Cambridge where your presence provides the security and stability a young person needs to thrive?
We are looking for a resilient, empathetic professional to join a dedicated specialist team in Cambridge. This isn't just a job in a classroom; it is an opportunity to be an advocate and mentor for students with complex learning needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, and moderate to severe learning difficulties. You will be the "anchor" in a student's day, helping them navigate a tailored curriculum designed to build their confidence and life skills.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
In this Cambridge-based specialist school, your role is pivotal to student success:
- 1:1 Mentorship: Provide dedicated support to students, helping them manage their emotions and stay engaged with personalised learning tasks.
- Independence Coaching: Guide learners through daily routines, teaching vital social and life skills needed to navigate the world independently.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Work with specialist teachers to "translate" lessons into sensory-friendly or simplified formats using tools like First/Then boards.
- EHCP Advocacy: Play a key role in tracking and achieving the specific goals laid out in each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Safe Space Creation: Maintain a calm, low-arousal environment, using positive behaviour strategies to ensure students feel safe to take risks and learn.
What Makes You the Right Fit?
- Resilience: The ability to remain calm and supportive during challenging behavioural moments, maintaining a positive outlook.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to use alternative communication methods like PECS or Makaton.
- Experience: A background in supporting individuals with additional needs, whether in a school, care, or community setting.
- Team Spirit: A collaborative approach, working hand-in-hand with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide holistic care.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or the willingness to apply for one).
