Cambridge
Are you ready to be the anchor for a student navigating the complexities of a specialist classroom in Cambridge?
Do you have the emotional intelligence to look beyond a student's behaviour to find the unmet need, and the resilience to provide steady support when things get tough?
We are seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in the heart of Cambridge. This full-time position is for an individual who believes that every child, regardless of their neurodiversity or learning barriers, deserves a champion. You will be supporting students with a range of needs-including Autism (ASC), SEMH, and complex communication profiles-helping them find success on their own terms.
How You Will Make an Impact
- Curriculum Tailoring: Work 1:1 to adapt lesson content into sensory-rich, digestible tasks that align with a student's specific cognitive strengths.
- Communication Advocacy: Utilise Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to help non-verbal or anxious students communicate their choices and reduce frustration.
- Proactive Regulation: Identify early triggers for sensory overload and implement calming strategies or "low-arousal" interventions before a crisis occurs.
- EHCP Milestone Advocacy: Provide detailed, empathetic feedback on a student's daily progress toward their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Independence Coaching: Guide students through "life-prep" activities, from navigating social circles in the playground to mastering daily self-care routines.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Unshakeable Calm: You are the "steady hand" in the room, remaining objective and supportive during high-pressure or dysregulated moments.
- Adaptable Energy: You can transition from a high-energy motivator during PE to a quiet, soothing presence during reading time.
- A "Can-Do" Spirit: You don't just see problems; you see opportunities to try a different approach, a different tool, or a different tone.
- Relevant Background: Experience in psychology, care, youth work, or previous SEN support is a major plus, but a genuine passion for inclusion is vital.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to obtain one).
The Benefits :
- Transparent Weekly Pay: £90 - £95 per day via our hassle-free PAYE system.
- Consistency & Stability: A guaranteed long-term, full-time role in a supportive Cambridge setting.
- Premier Specialist Training: Access free, certified CPD in Team Teach, Autism Level 1, and Safeguarding.
- Referral Scheme: Earn a £300 bonus for every successful friend you refer to the Randstad network.
