Cambridge
Are you looking to secure a rewarding role for the new academic year where your presence actually changes the frequency of a student's day?
Do you have the compassion to see past a challenge and the empathy to recognise that for many of our students, "behaviour" is simply a way to communicate an unmet need?
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist school in Cambridge for a September start. This is a long-term, full-time opportunity to work within a purpose-built environment supporting children and young people with complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing challenges. If you are a calm, resilient, and proactive individual, this is your chance to join a team that priorities student dignity and progress above all else.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Personalised Support: Execute tailored learning activities designed by the Class Teacher that cater to the specific cognitive and sensory needs of your assigned student.
- Communication Support: Help students navigate their world using PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton signs, or high-tech AAC devices.
- Emotional Regulation: Act as a co-regulator, identifying early signs of sensory overload and using "heavy work" or sensory breaks to help students maintain a state of calm.
- EHCP Contribution: Assist in tracking small-step progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) goals, providing valuable observations for annual reviews.
- Personal Care: Provide essential support with meal times, mobility, and personal hygiene, ensuring every student is treated with the utmost respect and care.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a "calm anchor" during high-pressure moments or periods of challenging behavior.
- Proactive Nature: A "can-do" attitude-you see what needs to be done to support the teacher and the students before being asked.
- Reliability: Our students thrive on routine and consistency; we need someone committed to being a steady part of their school life.
- Transferable Experience: Backgrounds in care, support work, psychology, or youth work are highly valued, though a genuine heart for SEN is the most important asset.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
- Competitive PAYE Rates: £90 - £95 per day
- September Stability: Secure your role now and enjoy your summer knowing exactly where you'll be making a difference in the new term.
- Specialist CPD: Access our free training suite, including Team Teach, Autism Awareness, and Safeguarding.
- Personalised Support: Work with Neeraj, your dedicated consultant who understands the Cambridge SEN landscape and will support your transition.
- Referral Bonus: Earn a £300 voucher for every friend or colleague you successfully refer to the Randstad family!
