Cambridge
Are you looking for a role that fits around your life, while still allowing you to make a profound impact on a young person's day?
Do you have the natural empathy to walk into a new classroom, build an immediate rapport, and provide the "calm in the storm" for students with complex needs?
We are seeking adaptable and energetic Ad-hoc SEN Teaching Assistants to join our partner SEN School in Cambridge. This "Outstanding" rated provision requires reliable, bank-staff support to assist their permanent teams. Whether you are a psychology student, a former carer, or an experienced TA looking for a better work-life balance, this role offers the chance to gain diverse experience across various SEN settings, including Autism (ASC), SLD, and PMLD.
Your Responsibilities
- Instant Engagement: Jump into 1:1 or small group support, quickly identifying a student's motivators to encourage participation in sensory and academic activities.
- Communication Support: Utilise your knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or visual aids to bridge the communication gap for non-verbal learners.
- Positive Co-Regulation: Support the permanent staff in maintaining a low-arousal environment, using de-escalation techniques to help students manage their emotions.
- Active Learning: Assist in everything from hydrotherapy and sensory circuits to outdoor play and functional life skills in the local Cambridge community.
- Dignity & Care: Provide essential assistance with mobility and personal care, ensuring every student feels safe, clean, and respected.
- Team Integration: Act as a proactive "right hand" to the Class Teacher, identifying where help is needed most without being asked.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Exceptional Adaptability: The ability to walk into different classrooms and adjust your support style to meet the specific needs of the students that day.
- Resilient Energy: A positive, "can-do" attitude that remains steady even when a student is having a difficult or dysregulated moment.
- Reliability: When you commit to a day of work, the school and the students are counting on you to be there.
- Relevant Experience: A background in SEN, healthcare, youth work, or childcare is ideal, but a genuine desire to support neurodiverse learners is the most important trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
