Cambridge
Are you looking to build a career in an "Outstanding" educational setting where your empathy and compassion are your most valued professional tools?
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join our premier partner SEN School in Cambridge. This specialist provision is a center of excellence for students with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication needs. In this role, you aren't just helping in a classroom; you are becoming a vital part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to unlocking the potential of every child.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Tailored 1:1 Support: Work closely with assigned students to deliver sensory-integrated learning activities that align with their specific cognitive and emotional needs.
- Communication Leadership: Use Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables to ensure that every student, regardless of verbal ability, can express their choices and needs.
- Positive Regulation: Monitor sensory environments and utilise "brain breaks" or calming strategies to help students maintain emotional balance throughout the school day.
- Academic Scaffolding: Assist the Class Teacher in adapting lesson materials, ensuring that activities are accessible, engaging, and dignity-focused.
- Progress Tracking: Help document "small-step" achievements and behavioural observations to provide essential data for EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews.
- Holistic Care: Support students with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene with the highest level of respect and care.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: A calm, steady, and nurturing temperament, especially during periods of student dysregulation or challenging behaviour.
- Proactive Mindset: You are someone who "sees the work"-preparing resources and anticipating student needs before being asked.
- Commitment to Consistency: Because our students find change difficult, we are looking for someone who can commit to a consistent, full-time schedule.
- Relevant Interest or Experience: Backgrounds in psychology, care, sports coaching, or youth work are ideal, but a genuine heart for SEN is the most important qualification.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently via Randstad).
