The Role
We have an exciting, long-term vacancy for a nurturing and reliable SEN TA at a respected SEN School serving the Northstowe area. You will work alongside a qualified teacher, primarily supporting students who have various special needs (such as Autism Spectrum Condition, communication difficulties, or physical needs).
In this role, you act as a crucial facilitator for learning. You will help bridge the gap between complex needs and educational access, ensuring every student feels understood, safe, and encouraged. Your daily duties will involve adapting materials, reinforcing teaching points, and cultivating an environment of respect and achievement.
Core Daily Focus
- Individualised Student Care: Provide close, tailored support to students based on their specific needs and goals outlined in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Classroom Collaboration: Actively assist the teacher in preparing the learning space and materials, making lessons accessible and engaging for all abilities.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Implement established strategies to promote positive behaviour choices, emotional regulation, and effective social interaction among peers.
- Holistic Support: Assist with mobility, personal care, and maintaining student well-being throughout the school day (where necessary and appropriate).
- Communication: Serve as a key link, communicating student progress, successes, and challenges back to the class teacher.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Direct Experience: Prior experience in an educational setting, especially one involving children or young people with complex needs, is strongly preferred.
- Essential Qualities: Demonstrated patience, empathy, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Adaptability: The ability to learn and confidently apply specialist support techniques (e.g., visual timetables, communication aids).
- Team Player: A reliable individual who can seamlessly integrate into a collaborative team of educators and specialists.
- Compliance: Must hold an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be ready to apply for one immediately).
