The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a proactive SEN Academic Support Facilitator to join a highly innovative school serving pupils with complex needs who are striving for mainstream inclusion, located in the Northstowe area.
This role is pivotal for providing targeted academic, organisational, and emotional support to pupils who require structured guidance to succeed. You will work primarily 1:1 or with small intervention groups, helping students manage their executive functioning, improve focus, and develop the independent study skills necessary for Key Stages 3 and 4.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide essential in-class and withdrawal support, adapting teaching strategies to ensure students with HFA, Dyslexia, or ADHD can access lesson content and complete tasks successfully.
- Implement effective organisational strategies (e.g., planners, time management tools, clear checklists) to support pupils with executive functioning difficulties.
- Assist the SENCO and teaching staff in creating and adapting accessible learning materials, utilising technology and visual supports effectively.
- Help monitor and record student behaviour and academic progress, providing precise feedback to inform ongoing intervention and EHCP reviews.
- Act as a reliable mentor, supporting students through transitions, emotional regulation challenges, and improving their social confidence.
- Deliver targeted intervention sessions focused on literacy, numeracy, and study skills development.
- Liaise effectively with teachers and parents, ensuring a consistent and proactive approach to the student's holistic development.
Essential Profile
- Strong prior experience supporting students with High-Functioning ASD, ADHD, or Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) in a secondary or primary environment.
- Proven ability to implement structured routines and effective organisational strategies.
- A naturally resilient, flexible, and energetic approach, able to motivate students who may be easily distracted or withdrawn.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to break down complex instructions and build strong professional rapport with young people.
- Familiarity with common IT platforms and assistive technology used to support learning.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
