Principal Duties
- Deliver targeted, high-calibre assistance to students on an individual or small-group basis, helping them to meet their personal developmental and EHCP objectives within the adapted curriculum.
- Support the Class Teacher by preparing and managing teaching aids, maintaining an inclusive learning space, and assisting with general classroom routines.
- Provide compassionate and professional assistance with personal care needs (including feeding, personal hygiene, and mobility), always upholding student dignity.
- Implement bespoke communication methods (e.g., PECS or Makaton) and established positive handling strategies as directed by senior staff and specialists.
- Maintain clear, accurate records of student engagement, behaviour incidents, and academic milestones, communicating any concerns promptly to the appropriate staff.
- Contribute effectively to the overall school community, rigorously following all child protection and school protocols.
Essential Candidate Profile
- Significant, demonstrable professional experience as a Support Worker or Teaching Assistant, ideally within a complex needs or SEN setting.
- While formal qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA) are valued, extensive, high-quality practical experience supporting relevant needs will be given full consideration.
- Proven capability to effectively support pupils with a complex array of needs (e.g., PMLD, SLD, ASC).
- A robust combination of exceptional patience, emotional resilience, flexibility, and a deep-seated vocational passion for supporting students with learning barriers.
- Familiarity with specialised communication systems and proactive behaviour management techniques.
- A mandatory current Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service, or immediate willingness to obtain one.
