About the Opportunity:
We are actively seeking a motivated, empathetic, and reliable SEN Support Specialist to join the committed team at a highly-regarded SEN School serving the Diss area. This role is initially offered on a contract basis, with a strong view to providing long-term security or a potential permanent appointment.
This position is fundamental to the school's delivery of personalised education. You will be a crucial team member, working closely alongside the Class Teacher and specialist therapeutic professionals. Your responsibilities will include helping to prepare the learning environment, manage essential resources, and, most importantly, provide intensive, bespoke support directly to students throughout the school day and during activities. You will be the primary implementer of strategies outlined in the students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), focusing on fostering communication, supporting independence, assisting with mobility, and providing sensitive personal care, thereby maximising the students' educational access and quality of life.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide high-impact, individualised support to students or small groups, ensuring they effectively access the adapted curriculum and successfully work towards their EHCP targets.
- Assist the Class Teacher with classroom management, the preparation of stimulating materials, and maintaining a well-organised, safe learning environment.
- Offer professional, sensitive assistance with all personal care needs (e.g., feeding, hygiene, and manual handling), preserving student dignity at all times.
- Expertly implement positive behaviour support strategies and specialised communication methods (including Makaton or PECS) as directed by the multidisciplinary team.
- Accurately track, record, and report on student progress, specific incidents, and any well-being concerns to the relevant senior staff.
- Contribute enthusiastically to the positive school culture and strictly adhere to all school and safeguarding policies.
Core Candidate Requirements
- Substantial and verifiable experience delivering support, ideally as a Key Worker or Teaching Assistant within a specialist SEN or complex needs setting.
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) is advantageous, but extensive, high-quality practical experience is equally valued.
- Proven confidence in supporting pupils with a diverse range of complex educational needs (e.g., PMLD, SLD, ASC).
- Possesses outstanding patience, robust resilience, high adaptability, and a demonstrable passion for supporting children facing significant barriers to learning.
- Familiarity with specialised communication aids and established positive behaviour support frameworks.
- Must hold a current Enhanced Child DBS registered on the Update Service, or be immediately willing to undertake one.
Benefits and Remuneration
- A competitive daily pay rate of £90 - £95.
- The chance to join a professional, friendly, and specialist staff team in a highly regarded school in the Diss area.
- Continuous, invaluable professional experience within a leading specialist educational provision.
- A profoundly rewarding and career-defining role where your commitment directly enhances students' long-term development and daily lives.
- £300 available via our Refer A Friend bonus scheme.
