Diss
Are you ready to be the stabilising presence that helps a student in Diss unlock their full potential?
Do you have the emotional depth to support a child through their frustrations and the boundless energy to celebrate their smallest achievements?
We are searching for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised school community in Diss. This is a full-time role for someone who believes that every child deserves a tailored education. You will be working with students who have a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC) and complex learning barriers, ensuring that their school experience is defined by success rather than struggle.
Your Role: Impact & Responsibilities
- Learning Personalisation: Work 1:1 to adapt lesson plans into sensory-friendly, manageable tasks that align with the student's unique learning pace.
- Predictability & Structure: Use Visual Timetables and First/Then boards to provide a clear, reliable routine that helps reduce transition-related anxiety.
- Proactive De-escalation: Spot the early signs of sensory overload or emotional distress, using calming techniques and "quiet zone" interventions to help the student self-regulate.
- EHCP Milestone Advocacy: Keep detailed, empathetic records of daily progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, ensuring every step forward is recognized.
- Independence Coaching: Support students during social times and lunch, helping them master the "hidden curriculum" of social cues and peer interaction.
What You'll Bring
- A "Marathon" Mindset: You understand that progress in SEN can be gradual, and you are committed to being a reliable, long-term support pillar.
- Resilient Calm: The ability to remain a soothing, objective presence even when a student is experiencing high levels of emotional distress.
- Proactive Initiative: You don't wait for a crisis; you anticipate a student's needs and act with kindness to maintain a positive environment.
- Background: Experience in care, psychology, youth work, or previous school support is a huge asset, but a genuine passion for inclusion is the most important requirement.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
