A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our partner specialist SEN Schools around Ely. You'll work closely with the incredible students, providing tailored support to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will have experience working with special needs children and a genuine desire to make a positive impact. An understanding, and resilient nature is essential, along with a proactive and flexible approach.
Key Responsibilities :
- Student Support: Providing tailored one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum and achieve the goals outlined in their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Classroom Assistance: Working closely with the class teacher to prepare resources, set up learning activities, and maintain a safe, stimulating, and organised classroom environment.
- Encouraging Independence: Using strategies that foster self-confidence and independence in students, encouraging them to take on new challenges and celebrate their personal growth.
- Promoting Well-being: Acting as a key pastoral support figure, you will help to manage classroom behaviour, promote positive social interactions, and ensure the physical and emotional well-being of our students throughout the school day.
- Collaboration: Actively communicating with the class teacher and other staff to share observations on student progress, challenges, and successes. Your insights will be crucial for adapting support strategies and planning future lessons.
- Personal Care: Assisting with personal care needs as required, ensuring student dignity and privacy are always respected.
Requirements :
- Experience: Proven experience working with children, particularly those with special educational needs, is highly desirable. This could be in a school, care, or voluntary setting.
- Safeguarding: A strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to protecting the welfare of all children is a non-negotiable requirement. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
- Core Skills: You should have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, typically demonstrated by GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent qualifications.
- Specialist Knowledge (Desirable): While not essential, any experience or training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, or positive behaviour management strategies would be a significant advantage.
