The Role: Crucial Support in Ely
A brilliant opportunity awaits a proactive and devoted SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to integrate with an established, specialist SEN academy operating in the Ely area.
This role is fundamental to the school's mission of providing high-quality, highly individualised education. You will be offering critical support, both one-to-one and in small groups, to pupils presenting with a wide array of profound and diverse needs, which may include Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Your commitment will directly help foster an inclusive, stable, and stimulating learning environment.
Your Contribution Will Involve
... - Providing vital, individualised help, empowering students to engage with tailored learning plans, regulate sensory input, and fully participate in classroom activities.
- Working effectively alongside the class teacher and specialist teams (e.g., physiotherapists, SALT) to adapt resources, set up therapeutic activities, and ensure the physical space meets complex mobility and sensory requirements.
- Implementing specific communication, behavioural, and emotional strategies detailed in each student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which may encompass augmented and alternative communication (AAC).
- Serving as a calm and consistent emotional anchor, employing skilled de-escalation techniques and facilitating functional communication during periods of distress.
- Contributing to the monitoring and accurate record-keeping of student progress, participation, and overall developmental outcomes.
- Assisting pupils with essential personal care, mobility, and feeding tasks when required, ensuring all actions are carried out with the utmost respect, dignity, and sensitivity.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated background in supporting young people, with direct experience in a special school or supporting pupils with significant learning challenges being highly advantageous.
- A naturally calm, empathetic demeanour, exceptional resilience, and a genuine enthusiasm for the specialist educational context.
- The ability to quickly build sincere, professional, and trusting connections with students, families, and all staff members.
- Outstanding skills in observation, professional communication, and teamwork, particularly in interpreting and reacting to non-verbal cues.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS registered with the update service (or a readiness to process an application immediately).
