The Role: Essential Support in ElyA fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a committed partner SEN school near Ely.
This role is absolutely essential to the provision of quality education. It requires you to offer one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and associated communication difficulties. Your consistent presence will directly contribute to fostering a stable, secure, and academically enriching environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide crucial, individualised support to students, helping them maintain focus, smoothly transition between activities, and participate actively in differentiated lessons.
- Work closely with the class teacher and therapy teams to adapt learning resources and prepare the classroom space to meet the sensory and functional needs of the pupils.
- Implement specific, evidence-based strategies outlined in students' support plans, including those related to behaviour intervention and communication methods.
- Serve as a consistent emotional regulator, offering calm de-escalation support and promoting positive self-regulation techniques during challenging moments.
- Contribute to the monitoring, documentation, and reporting of pupil progress, engagement levels, and overall personal well-being.
- Assist with pupils' mobility and personal care needs as required, ensuring all tasks are carried out with the utmost professionalism and respect for dignity.
Requirements
- Proven experience supporting children or young people, specifically those with complex Special Educational Needs, is essential for this role.
- A naturally calm, empathetic, and highly resilient temperament, coupled with a genuine enthusiasm for working in a specialist educational setting.
- The ability to establish strong, professional, and positive working relationships with pupils, staff, and parents rapidly.
- Excellent teamwork, communication (both verbal and non-verbal), and observational skills.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to obtain one promptly).
